CHAPTER 5 JOURNAL
The culmination of the first four chapters is in chapter five. All the repressed emotion and talent comes busting through subconsciously for Asher. It happens in class one day, while the teacher is talking Asher finds himself drawing in his Chumash, but the strange thing is Asher does not know what he is doing. The drawing of the Rebbe in his book is only brought to his attention by a fellow student. This outburst of his talent begins to show the uncontrollablity of this gift. When he is sent to the Mashpia the true uncontrolableness of this gift is brought to the attention of everyone including the Rebbe.
When Asher is summoned to the Mashpia's office Asher demonstrates how uncontrollable and strong his gift is. Although Asher knows he is supposed to pay attention e seems he cannot. Every time the Mashpia begins to talk Asher begins to day dream and be a hundred miles away from the office. The Mashpia realizes this and continually asks whether Asher is sick, which most people feel he is. The only happening in that office that interested Asher was when he was asked to fill a sketch book with drawings. Asher drew everything he could think of, children, Stalin, the rabbi, his block, everything except his father. He did not know why he was asked to do this but he certainly jumped at the chance. Little did he know that these drawings were for the Rebbe himself.
