CHAPTER 14 JOURNAL

With the climax already reached, the final chapter in My Name Is Asher Lev is a culmination and tying of loose ends. It is up to Asher to find all those people he left nearly two years ago. When he visits Yudel Krinsky the disbelief in the Reb's eyes are evident. The community never knew what to expect from this gifted but bizarre one. For all they knew he my never come back. When his parents finally do return however there is a heavy presence in the air leading up to the final point of the story. When the Lev's return from their trip they are also dumb founded with his appearance. Although they knew he had arrived home his appearance there still awed them. The feelings between Asher and his father seemed resolved. The success Asher had enjoyed made his father happy because his son was considered a success. This leads to the conclusion that Reb Lev did not have anything against Asher's drawing itself, but more how Asher's drawing reflected on him. This closing of the unrest between them seems conclusive, but the rift between them is opened much wider when his parents view the two Crucifixion paintings. His father had no idea that there would be anything wrong with at the show. He knew there were no nudes, and that appeared to him that there would be nothing offensive then. He thought Asher would never think of drawing a crucifixion, especially after the speeches he had made to Asher. However, I believe his mother knew there was something wrong. Unexplainably she knew there was something waiting for them because of Asher's tone and feeling of dread.
