Caesar Response
The modern significance of Julius Caesar is Shakespeare effort to convey certain morals to his audience. In his performance of it he wished to show the evils that Caesar possessed. These flaws are much like the ones Oedipus possessed in the Sophoclese play Oedipus Rex. Caesar was doomed because of his cockiness and also his killer ambition. Had it not been for Caesar's cockiness and ego he would have realized he was mortal like any other person. On the Ides of March he was very aware that something bad would happen because of the strange occurrences in nature and also the dreams his wife was having. But he insisted on waving these warnings off and ultimately he was betrayed and killed. This is a modern day lesson to not have an oversized head and know that no one is invincible. On the other hand his ambition for power also seemed to get him killed. Though ambition is incurred in business in school and excess can often be mistaken for greed. The other representatives of the Republic feared that Caesar's ambition would lead them into a dictatorship, so they assassinated him. The message in this play is to not get over ambitious and also to keep in touch with reality.
