IN DEFENSE OF THE RUSSIAN PEOPLE

During this long Cold War Americans have made it known they do not approve of the Soviets actions. Recently however, Americans have begun to feel to feel more sympathetic to the poor Russian citizens who are forced to approve of and work for the U.S.S.R. government.

As recently as early 1948, 70% of Americans public viewed the Soviet Union as unfavorable. Yet, before then during the end of World War II many Americans had sympathy for the Russians people. During the German attack on Stalingrad the Russian citizens transformed heir lives into war as they fought whole heartidely . Americans were qouted as saying they had," admiration of the hard-working and brave soviets."

We may be witnessing a return to those timews as many Americans realize it is not the civilians in Russia who they are in a Cold War with, is the higharchy and leadres of the U.S.S.R., specifically Primier Shostavich. In fact it is the citizens who are suffering more than anyone because of the tense relations and the slave like labor they are forced to do. It is the leaders of the Soviet Union who are causing this image of iron fistedness. Earlier this year the Russian composers Aram, Khatchurin, Serge Prokoviev, and Dmitri Shostavich were rebuked because their music was "a disgrace to soviets."
