Catcher Journal 2

In Catcher In the Rye by J.D. Salinger the theme of ending where you began is showed through Holden Cualfield. In the beginning of the story Holden begins at the institutional school of Pencey. Also at the end he is shipped back to that institution.

In the beginning Holden is there by choice, somewhat. After being kicked out of numerous other schools he found himself at Pencey flunking out. On the verge of being kicked out he leaves. After a couple day journey to and around New York he is sent back to Pencey for the new semester. The idea that one will end up where he starts is a major theme in all the books we have read, such as Huck Finn and The Hobbit. It is very human for someone to feel this way and I believe this is what emotion the authors were trying to portray, the feeling of helplessness that you can't move despite all your efforts. Holden is very depressed that what he tried to escape from is where he ended up.
